Ofsted is the organisation in England that checks how good schools and other children’s services are.
What Ofsted does:
- Visits schools and nurseries to see how well they’re doing
- Checks teaching, learning, behaviour, and safety
- Talks to staff and students and looks at school work and policies
- Writes a report with a rating, like Outstanding, Good, Requires Improvement, or Inadequate
- Publishes the report online so parents can see how the school is performing
For parents, Ofsted reports are meant to:
- Give a clear, independent view of a school’s quality
- Help you understand strengths and areas to improve
- Support you when choosing a school or talking to a school about concerns
In short: Ofsted checks schools and tells the public how well they’re doing and how they can improve.
